Do not use "x" to indicate multiplication. Use "*" (Shift-8). "x" gets confused with the variable x.

An "equivalent" expression is just that, equivalent. By the order of operations, your expression has a value of 34. Any equivalent expression, by definition must have a value of 34, otherwise it isn't equivalent.

And to add insult to injury, no possible configuration of A set of parentheses can transform the given expression into an expression that has a value of 48, presuming the order of numbers and operations must remain the same.

you should use * to indicate multiplication rather than x.
this avoids confusion between a variable called x and the multiplication symbol.

your expression is 3*6 + 3*2 + 4

without parentheses this becomes 18 + 6 + 4 which is equal to 28.

place the parentheses as shown below and it will be equal to 48 as desired.

3 * (6 + 3*2 + 4)

the expression inside the parentheses becomes:

6 + 6 + 4 which becomes 12 + 4 which becomes 16.

3 * 16 = 48.
