I hope this made sense. The brackets really encompassed the top and the bottom numbers but I was unable to find brackets that large. Sorry.
Answer by Nate(3500) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
[2x + 5y]=[1]
[x + 3y]=[0]
2x + 5y = 1 and x + 3y = 0 ~> x = -3y
plug:
2x + 5y = 1
2(-3y) + 5y = 1
-6y + 5y = 1
-y = 1
y = -1
