When calculating the midpoint of the points (3,1) and (11,7), what is the midpoint?
It's just a matter of:

1. averaging the two x-coordinates.
2. averaging the two y-coordinates.

The average of the two x-components is .
The average of the two y-components is 

So the midpoint between (3,1) and (11,7) is (7,4).  See?:
