a trader bought some oranges at 75 cents each. she finds that six of them are rotten, she sells the rest at one dollar each and makes a profit of thirty-one dollar fifty cents how many oranges did he buy. (work in cents)
--------------
Let "x" be the number of oranges she bought: Value is 75x cents
Discards 6 and sells rest for a dollar each : Value is 100(x-6)=100x-600 cents
--------
EQUATION:
Income - Cost = 3150cents
100x-600 - 75x = 3150
25x = 2550
x = 510 (number of oranges she bought)
