Question 7090: Problem: 4/2n > 8 (Note, the > has a line under it)
Hi, I'm trying to help my child over the phone with math. She has the above problem.
I don't have a book that explains the symbols and can't find one one the net.
Could you help me with that?
Also, could you explain the problem to me. I think it's 2 times n divided into 4 (something) 8
Thanks,
Dan

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I don't seem able to show the symbol correctly but this is an inequality and it reads:
"4 divided by 2n is greater-than-or-equal-to 8"
Inequalities are solved much like equations:
4%2F2n++%3E=+8+ Multiply both sides of the >= by 2n
4+%3E=+2n%288%29 Simplify.
4%3E=+16n Divide both sides by 16.
4%2F16+%3E=+n Simplify.
1%2F4+%3E=+n or n+%3C=+1%2F4
The answer reads: n is less-than-or-equal-to 1/4
