Please help me solve the following:
:
–3(10x – 3) + 10(3x – 3) = x – 7
:
First multiply what's inside the brackets, remember if there is a negative
outside the brackets you change the signs inside the brackets:
:
-30x + 9 + 30x - 30 = x - 7
:
Combine the like terms on the left:
-30x + 30x + 9 - 30 = x - 7
:
-21 = x - 7
:
add 7 to both sides:
-21 + 7 = x
:
x = -14
:
:
Check our solution: substitute -14 for x in:
–3(10x – 3) + 10(3x – 3) = x – 7
:
-3[10(-14) - 3] + 10[3(-14) - 3] = -14 - 7
:
-3[-140 - 3] + 10[-42 - 3] = -21
:
-3(-143) + 10(-45) = -21
:
+429 - 450 = -21, proves our solution that x = -14
