Question 49532: 1. Find the values of the following expression for x = , y = -1 and z = 2:

(xyz^2)^3 / xyz
= (1/2 * -1 * 22)^3 / ½ * -1 * 2
= (1/2 * -1 * 4)^3 / -1
= (-2)3 / -1
= -8
Is this correct or did I interpret the question wrong? Your input would be appreciated.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Hello Andrea,
Your solution till one line before the last line is correct. Yes. The answer is '8' and not '-8'. Because you arrived at -8/-1. OK?
It means -8 divided by -1. When you divide or multiply a negative number
by another negative number the answer is always positive. In other words,
the numerator here is dividend and the denominator is divisor. when you
multiply divisor by the quotient, you must get the dividend. Isn't it?
Here, if you multiply 8(Quotient) by the divisor(-1) you get -8 and that is
the dividend. I hope it is clear to you.
