solve for t
26=6(t+6)-8t
--------------
8t = 6(t+6)-26
---
8t = 6t+10
---
4t = 3t+5
---
t = (3t+5)/4

26=6(t+6)-8t is the given question
i.e. 26 = 6t + 36 - 8t (removing the brackets)
26 = 6t - 8t + 36
26 = -2t + 36
2t = 36 - 26 (on transposing, -2t becomes 2t and 26 becomes -26)
2t = 10
t = 10/2 (the 2 in the numerator goes to the denominator when taken to the right side of the equation)
or t = 5
