Question 243149: how many variables in the sum 3+6d^2+d+e

looks like 2.

d and e

d^2 is a different term but the same variable.

when you combine like terms, d^2 and d don't combine.

but they are the same variable.

the letter e could be a variable or it could be the scientific constant e.

if it is the scientific constant e = 2.718281818 then you have 1 variable in the equation.

if it's not, then you have 2 variables.
