Question 171638: the height h (in feet)of an object that is dropped from the height of s feet is given by the formula h=s-16t^2, where t is the time the object is falling. a five foot tall woman on a sidewalk looks driectly overhead and sees a window washer drop a bottle from the 3rd story.how long does she have to get out of the way? round to the nearest tenth. (a story is 12 feet)..help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Answer by Earlsdon(6294)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Starting with the given formula:
Substitute h = 5 ft. and s = 3(12ft.) = 36 ft.
Subtract 36 from both sides.
Divide both sides by -16.
Take the square root of both sides.

seconds.
The woman has 1.4 seconds to get out of the way of the falling bottle, but, if I were she, I would waste no time in doing this algebra! I would move immediately!
