Question 119199: I am trying to simplify the expression, I have the right number but still very confused how I got the answer. Could you give me the steps to do this? Thanks so much.. The answer is 7/6a+13/6
Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1/[2(3a+1)] - 1/[3(a-5)]
-----------
Least common denominator: 6(a-5)(3a+1)
Rewrite each fraction with the lcm as its denominator:
[3(a-5)]/lcm - [2(3a+1)]/lcm
Combine the fractions:
= [3a-15-6a-2]/lcm
= [-3a-17]/[6(a-5)(3a+1)]
