If the product of a number and -7 is reduced by 3, the result is 33 less than twice the opposite number.
What is the number?
:
let n = the number
then
-n = the opposite number
:
-7n - 3 = 2(-n) - 33
-7n = - 2n - 33 + 3
-7n + 2n = -30
-5n = -30
n = -30/-5
n = +6
:
:
Confirm this in the original equation
-7(6) - 3 = 2(-6) - 33
-42 - 3 = -12 - 33
-45 = -45
