You are given 

x^(1/4) + x^(-1/4) = .   (!)

Square both sides. You will get

x^(1/2) + 2x^(1/4)*x^(-1/4) + x^(-1/2) = ,   or

x^(1/2) + 2 + x^(-1/2) = .


Simplify:


x^(1/2) + x^(-1/2) = .   (2)


So, this is the answer to your first question.


Now square (2) one more time and do the same.
