Question 166430: I HAVE TO SOLVE FOR THREE VARIABLES IN THREE DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS. PLEASE HELP.
9x-y+z=-30
3x+2y-3z=-3
x-3y+2z=-12
i thought i knew how to figure it out but i have been at this well over 20 minutes so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Question 166459: 7x-2 divided by 10 = 9x divided by 4 + 6
I understand that I must get rid of the fractions first but cannot determine how to do this with the fractions on both sides. If I multipy by 10 on the right side and left side do I then multipy by 4 on both sides.

Question 166815: Dear Tutors,
I am a PhD student of literature and languages, and am interested in representing the act of translating a text into one language into another in the form of an algebraic equation. My research is about how when you translate from one language into another, you are not simply replacing one for the other, you are actually getting the sum of the two parts, so it is the two languages making a whole new unit. I feel there is the possibility of representing this in an equation - something along the lines of language x, when translated into language y, is actually a translated text that is the sum of x and y. So the translation z is x+y. Would this be right? I really appreciate any pointers or insights you could give me, as I really don't know anything about algebra, and would bow to your considerable knowledge! :)

It's been decades since I last worked in serious algebra but have hit a mathematical problem that I cannot solve. Your help would be tremendously appreciated.
Starting Amount = 3,000,000 (- variable c)
Ending Amount = 0
Number of Years to withdrawl amounts = 10 (- variable y)
Withdrawl Amounts increase annually by 3% [inflation rate] (- variable f)
Each years remaining amount (- variable r) increases by 3.75% [interest rate] (- variable i) = interest (- variable z)
Each annual withdrawal amount so far is unknown. (- variable x)
Solve for the initial [first year] withdrawal amount (x).
Provide a formula to calculate the first x with theb given values above.
Known Formulas I have figured out that do work with these values:

A sample table with accurate figures doing the same mathematical calculations as needed above but for 3 years instead of 10 is shown below. For this data, all other constants from above remain unchanged.

Question 167420: 17=5+x
17=5+12
therefore, x = 12
I know this is a simple enough problem but when problems such as this one become more difficult, how would I solve them using the Addition Property of Equality?
