Question 53418: Will you help me find the solution to this equation: 6x-3(6-5x)+3x=10-4(2-x)
I tried this:
6x-18+15x+3x=10-8+4x
21x-15=2+4x
25x-15=2
25x=17
x=17/25
I know the answer is supposed to be 1, I just don't know how to get it.

Question 53408: At 10:00AM a car leaves a house at a rate of 60 mph. At the same time another car leaves the same house at a rate of 50 mph in the opposite direction. At what time will the cars be 330 miles apart?

I know I need rate ( 50mph and 60 mph) distance and time. I need a variable for either distance or time. My final answer is to find out what time it will be when they are 330 miles apart. Which one is the variable, the time or the distance. I also know the final answe is 3 hours or 1 pm, but I don't know how to write the equation to get there.
This isn't from the text book, it is from a worksheet.
