A train leaves the station at noon. The train is 180 miles from its destination at 12:45 P.M and 90 miles from it's destination at 2:15 P.M.
Write an equation and solve for each.
----
Note:: The train traveled 90 miles in 1 1/2 hours
rate = dist/time = 90/(3/2) = 60 mph

1. How far is the station from the destination?
90 miles at 2:15
--------------------
2. At what time will the train reach its destination?
In 1 1/2 hours it goes 90 miles.
So, arrival time should be 2:15 + 90 min 3:45 PM

12:45 to 2:15 is 90 minutes and the train went 90 miles, so the speed of the train is 1 mile per minute (60 miles per hour). Therefore, since the train was 180 miles away from its destination 45 minutes after it started, the destination and the originating station must be 45 miles plus 180 miles equals 225 miles apart.
