Let L be the lenght of the garden and w be the width.
From your question,
L=3w-8----(1)
2(L+w)=48
L+w=24---(2)
Put 1 in 2
3w-8+w=24
4w=24+8
4w=32
w=8
put w=8 in 1
L=3(8)-8
L=25-8
L=17
The lenght and width of the garden is 17 and 8 respectively.
