w + 50 = length
Perimeter of a rectangle = 2(width) + 2(length)
2w + 2(w + 50) = 300 {substituted width and length into perimeter formula}
2w + 2w + 100 = 300 {used distributive property}
4w + 100 = 300 {combined like terms}
4w = 200 {subtracted 100 from each side}
w = 50 {divided each side by 4}
width = 50
length = 100

Make the width = 'x'
Width = x
Length = x + 50
Perimeter = 2 x Length + 2 x Width
300 = 2(x + 50) + (2(x))
300 = 2x + 100 + 2x
Collect like terms
2x + 2x = 300 - 100
4x = 200
x = 50
Width = 50 feet
Length = 100 feet.
