Question 943725: I'm really sorry to bother you like this however i'm really having trouble with this one question in algebra
xsquared -3xy+2ysquared
I know the answer is forty, however I don't know how to come to that conclusion (how to do the working out) I know this is probably pretty basic for you but i'd really appreciate help, also I hope this is isn't asking for too much however I was hoping you could outline how often I should ask questions ( to you people) since I don't want to 'dump my whole homework in one question.' thank you for reading this and thank you in advance!

Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x^2 - 3xy + 2y^2 = 0
we want to factor this, the factors of 2, are 1 and 2, so we have
(x - 1y )(x - 2y) = 0
perhaps it will help if you're familiar with "FOIL," if you FOIL these two factors:
x^2 - 2xy - xy + 2y^2
combine like terms
x^2 - 3xy + 2y^2 = 0, the original quadratic equation
:
I don't know how you get 40 out of this. ankor@att.net if you have a question
