Question 94349: I'm trying to find the writable portion of a piece of stationery using only the picture in the mail order mag. I know the actual sheet is 5x7. It measures 1.625 or (1 5/8) by 1.125 or (1 1/8) in the picture. The writable area is 5/16" from the top of the page and 7/16" from the bottom. Using these measurements, how do I convert them to the standard 5x7 card? I know
5" = 1.125" and 7" = 1.625" so what is (5/16") or .3125" and (7/16") or .4375"??? I know this is probably an easy equation and I know I learned it in 9th grade algebra, but that's been a LONG time ago. Thanks for your attention and time.

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Use a proportion as follows:
Regarding the 5/16---------------
(5/16)/(9/8) = x/5
(5/16)/(18/16) = x/5
5/18 = x/5
x = 25/18 = 1.3888888...
So the 5/16 becomes 1.3888 from the top of the actual picture.
------------------
Regarding the 7/16--------------
(7/16)/(9/8) = x/5
(7/16)/(18/16) = x/5
(7/18) = x/5
x = 35/18
x = 1.944444....
So the 7/16 becomes 1.944444.. from the bottom of the actual picture.
