Question 92800: My car gets 27 miles to the gallon. If gasoline costs $3.23 per gallon, how far can I drive on $45.00 worth of gas?
I divided 3.23 by 45 getting 13.93. Then Multiplied 1.93 by 27 getting 378 miles as my final answer? Is this correct and did I solve it properly?
Thank you!!!!

Pretty close. I have a couple of comments:
.
You said, "I divided 3.23 by 45 getting 13.93." You meant to say, "I divided 45 by 3.23 to
get 13.93."
.
Next you said, "Then Multiplied 1.93 by 27 getting 378 miles." You meant to say, "Then I multiplied
13.93 by 27 getting 376.11 miles."
.
Your basic method was correct. When you divide $45 by $3.23 you are getting the number of
gallons of gasoline that you can by with $45 if you are paying $3.23 per gallon. Then, since
your car averages 27 miles per gallon, if you multiply the 13.93 gallons by 27 miles per
gallon, you find that the car will travel 376.11 miles, not 378 miles. Probably just a
simple math error or a round-off error some place.
.
Good job of figuring out how to do the problem. Hope this helps you a little.
