Question 91987: Last and final problem I am having troubles with is the following:
Instructions:
Find the solution set of :
1/k-1 + 1/k+2 = 3/k^2+k-2
Translation:
Looks like 3 different terms to me:
1 divided by k-1 + 1 divided by k+2 = 3 divided by k squared plus k-2
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the denominator on the right side is the common denominator for the two fractions on the left side
so (k+2)+(k-1)=3 ... 2k+1=3 ... 2k=2 ... k=1
BUT ... if k=1 then two of the denominators become 0, resulting in undefined quantities
this means that there is NO SOLUTION ... the solution set is the null set
