This is what I have done
-3y + 1/2 = 5/7 = 10/14 The 1/2's cancel each other out.
-1/2 = -1/2 = 7/14
-3y = 3/14 The -3's cancel each other out.
____ ____

I know that the answer should be -1/14 but I don't know how to get there.

Answer by ewatrrr(24785)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-3y + 1/2 - 1/2 = 5/7 - 1/2
-3y = 10/14 - 7/14
-3y = 3/14

y = -1/14
