Question 896679: a distributor of apple juice has 5000 bottle in the store that it wishes to distribute in a month. from experience it is known that demand D (in number of bottles) is given by D = -2000pē + 2000p + 1700. the price per bottle that will result zero inventory is
Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
your demand equation is:

d = -2000p^2 + 2000p + 1700.

you want to find the value of p when d = 5000.

unfortunately you won't be able to find it because the maximum value of that equation is 2200 when p = .5.

that demand equation can never reach 5000.

to solve this graphically, i graphed the equation of y = -2000x^2 + 2000x + 1700 and i graphed the equation of y = 5000

i changed p to x and d to y in order to be able to graph it.

these are just name changed and have no impact on the values that the equation will provide.

the intersection of those 2 graphs would be your solution.

unfortunately they don't intersect because the maximum value of the demand graph is 1700.

here's the graph:
