Question 883077: A 40 inch board is to be cut into 3 pieces so that the 2nd piece is twice as long as the first piece, and the third piece is 5 times as long as the first piece. So I did: 40=x+2x+5x - 40=8x - 40/8=5 - x=5. Once again I know that is the answer, but I didn't process it properly.
