Question 876452: An inventory of two types of floodlights showed a total of 60 lights valued at $2580. If Type A cost $40 each while Type B cost $50 each, how many Type B floodlights were in inventory?
Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x= number of type A
y= number of type B

1 x + 1 y = 60 .............1

40 x + 50 y = 2580 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by -50
Multiply (2) by 1
-50 x -50 y = -3000
40 x + 50 y = 2580
Add the two equations
-10 x = -420
/ -10
x = 42
plug value of x in (1)
1 x + 1 y = 60
42 + y = 60
y = 60 -42
y = 18
y = 18
x= 42 number of type A
y= 18 number of type B
