Question 875640: My 12 year old has this one for homework, I've seen it solved but can't explain it easily to them can you help? A mystery 2 digit number.
When 2 is subtracted from it and the result is doubled we get the same two-digit number with its digits reversed. If the sum of the two digits is 13, find the value of the two digits. TRANSLATE THE ABOVE INFORMATION TO WRITE TWO EQUATIONS THEN TRY AND LINK THE TWO EQUATIONS TO SOLVE FOR THE UNKNOWNS.

Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let n be the mystery number
a is the 10's digit
b is the one's digit
10a+b=n,
a+b=13,
2(n-2)= 10b+a
a = 4, b = 9, n = 49
we know that is is a number under 100
the digits add up to 13
4 9
5 8
6 7
7 6
8 5
9 4
