Question:

3x – 7 = 2x + 8

Answer:

3x – 7 = 2x + 8

subtract 2x from both sides...

==> 3x - 2x - 7 = 2x - 2x + 8

==> x - 7 = 8

Add 7 on both sides.....

==> x - 7 + 7 = 8 + 7

==> x = 15

To check you solution, plugg the value of x, that is x = 15 in the given equation.....

3 * 15 – 7 = 2* 15 + 8

==> 45 - 7 = 30 + 8

==> 38 = 38

That is you have got same value on both sides of the equal sign.

So your answer is correct.

Hope you found the explanation useful.

Warm Regards.
