i have tried distributing the 2 to the whole top half of the problem and then simplifying but it doesn't come out right...

No distributive property. The expression only shows factors and ratios. Also, seeing how you arranged your rendering attempt, your expression really seems intended as this:



The fraction bar acts as a grouping symbol;
multiplication is a binary operation;
division is a binary operation;
Once an operation is done between two numbers, it is FINISHED between them. That is what I mean when saying, "No distributive property."
