Question 848545: Hi! I need some help figuring out a few algebra equations, and I do have answers in mind for each problem which I will mention at the end. :) Thank you!!!
Solve each equation below by undoing.
1. 4x+(-12)=8
2. 6+(-x)/2=14
3. -3+5x-7=20
Thanks! Hope you can help, I would love the answers ASAP! Thank you so much!
P.S.
For #1 I thought the answer was x=5 because 4*5=20 and 20+(-12)=8...I think.
For #2 I thought the answer was x=16 because 16/2=8 and 6+8=14, but it did say it was a -x so I'm confused on that part if you are willing to help.
For #3 I thought the answer was x=-2 because 5*(-2)=-10 and -3+(-10)=-13 and -13-7=-20.
Hope that helped! Thanks again!!!

Answer by swincher4391(1107) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The key is to do the inverse operation to solve.
1) 4x - 12 = 8
Add 12 to both sides.
4x = 20
divide by 4.
2) 6+ (-x/2) =14
subtract 6.
-x/2 = 8
multiply by 2.
-x = 16
multiply by -1
3) -3+5x-7 = 20
5x - 10 = =20 (just simplifying the left)
add 10
5x = 30
divide by 5
Answer by Alan3354(69443) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1. 4x+(-12)=8
4x = 20
x = 5
====================
2. 6+(-x)/2=14
-x/2 = 8
x = -16
=================
3. -3+5x-7=20
5x - 10 = 20
5x = 30
x = 6
=============
Sub the answers to check.
3. -3+5x-7=20
For #3 I thought the answer was x=-2
-3 + 5*-2 =? 20
-3 -10 =? 20
-13 =? 20 doesn't work.
