What is the equation of the line that passes through (–2, 4) and is perpendicular to 2x + 3y = –6?
----
1st: Find the slope of the given line:
3y = -2x-6
y = (-2/3)x - 2
slope = -2/3
-------
2nd: A perpendicular line must have slope = 3/2
------
Form: y = mx + b
Substitute and solve for "b":
4 = (3/2)(-2) + b
4 = -3 + b
b = 7
--------
Equation:
y = (3/2)x + 7
