I'm going to guess at what you meant to post::
5/(x-1) - 3/x

least common denominator: x(x-1)
-----
= [5x -3(x-1))/(x(x-1))
-----
= [5x-3x+3]/[x^2-x]
-----
= [2x+3]/[x^2-x]
