Question 81820: Solve the system by addition or substitution.
6x – 2y = 6
y = 3x – 1

Since your question offers a choice, I'd just substitute to solve this rather interesting, peculiar system.
6x - 2y = 6 --(1)
y = 3x - 1 ---(2) <-- Take this and put it into the first equation
6x - 2(3x - 1) = 6
6x - 6x + 2 = 6
0 + 2 = 6
2 = 6????
Hmmm, 2 does not equal 6. This inequality here tells us that this system is still special. This system has no solutions because these two lines are parallel to each other, so they NEVER intersect.
Hence, your answer would be: lines are parallel, so no solution.
You can even graph this system out and see what I mean.
