This equation can be simplified into x^2+(x+2)(x+2)=100.
So, when (x+2)(x+2) is simplified through foil, this becomes x^2+4x+4
The new equation is x^2+x^2+4x+4=100
Combine like terms
2x^2+4x+4=100
Move 100 to the left side in order to make it a solvable quadratic equation.
2x^2+4x-96=0
This simplifies to
(2x-16)(x-6)=0
Now, to find both values of x, the factors should be set to zero.
2x-16=0
2x=16
x=8
x-6=0
x=6
With the following values, the final answer is x= 8 or 6
I did not show work while factoring, but I used the Berry Method. Information about the Berry Method can be found here: http://youtu.be/R3PFOPZJP5o?t=1m39s.
