4c-7=2c-1
Since 2c contains the variable to solve for, move it to the left-hand side of the equation by subtracting 2c from both sides.
4c-7-2c=-1
Since 4c and -2c are like terms, add -2c to 4c to get 2c.
2c-7=-1
Since -7 does not contain the variable to solve for, move it to the right-hand side of the equation by adding 7 to both sides.
2c=7-1
Subtract 1 from 7 to get 6.
2c=6
Divide each term in the equation by 2.
(2c)/(2)=(6)/(2)
Simplify the left-hand side of the equation by canceling the common terms.
c=(6)/(2)
Simplify the right-hand side of the equation by simplifying each term.
c=3
