Question 776953: (x-3)/8=3/(x+2)

Answer by sofiyac(983)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
this is a proportion so you multiply across
(x-3)(x+2)=8*3
x^2-3x+2x-6=24
x^2-x-30=0 now you can factor this quadratic equation
(x-6)(x+5)=0 set each part equal to zero and solve for x
x-6=0 add 6 to each side
x=6
x+5=0 subtract 5 from each side
x=-5
