Question 762777: Hi! I'm a senior in nursing school, yet I can't remember the last time I had to solve an algebra equation?! Go figure it would come back to bite me on my way out the door. I used to actually be pretty good and enjoyed math, even though I was never really good at it. Anyways, sorry for the life story! I have to solve an equation in order to figure out a lab value for a patient. I think I have worked it down to where I only need to essentially solve for "x" but at this point I might as well be starring at a calculus, trig, or geometry equation because that is how lost I am. So here is where I started:
GFR(ml/min) = (140-age in yrs) x weight in Kg / 72 x Serum Creatinine
x (multiply this result by) 0.85
Given Information includes:
Age in years= 76
GFR(ml/min)=50.7
Serum Creatinine= 1.1
Solve for "x"=weight in Kg?
So after I plug everything in, I am left with:
((140-76)x weight in Kg /72 x1.1 =50.7)0.85

((64) x weight in Kg /72 x1.1 =50.7)0.85
((64x)/72 x1.1 =50.7)0.85

I assume your formula is
((64)* x / (72 * 1.1) = 50.7)) * 0.85 where * means multiply and x is weight in Kg
64x / 79.2 = 50.7
multiply both side of the = by 79.2
64x = 4015.44
x = 62.74 Kg
