Question 750868: This was the first problem I had. I do not understand equations whatsoever. Not two-part equations, not one-part equations, not any equation! Please help me!
First, I tried:
(1/3)(9x-12)=4x-9
1/3(9x)-1/3(12)=4x-9
(3x-4)=4x-9
3x-4x=-1x
4x-4x=0
-1x-4=-9
-9+4=-5
-1x=-5
x=-5
I got this question wrong, but I don't know how!
Thank-you for your time,
Sarah

(1/3)(9x-12)=4x-9 One step at a time, each trying to simplify. Start by multiplying both sides by 3. The 1/3 vanishes, and other side is X3
9x-12=12x-27 Next, subtract 9x from both sides.
-12=3x-27 Next add 27 to both sides.
15=3x Now, divide both side by 3
5=x Solved!

you were doing great until you reached the last step
You have -1x = -5 and you need to divide both sides by -1 to isolate x
-1x = -5
(-1x)/(-1) = -5/(-1)
(1x)/1 = 5/1
1x = 5
x = 5
So final answer is x = 5

(1/3)(9x-12)=4x-9 first this is the normal equation
you need to multiply 1/3 and 9 and next the same with 1/3 and 12 , also you need to simplify 1/3(9)= 1 times 9= 9 and 3 divide 9 = 3 ... 1/3(12)= 1 times 12= 12 and 12 divide 3= 4 ..
3x-4= 4x-9 now 3x mines 4x = -1x
-1x-4=-9 -9 plus -4 = -5
-1x=-5 -1x divide -5 = 5
x=5 the answer is positive because when you divide 2 negatives numbers the answer become to positive
