Multiply equation by a common denominator, 18 is a good one, you then have:
6(2x+1) - 3(3x+4) = 2(5x-9)

Multiply what's inside the brackets:
12x + 6 - 9x - 12 = 10x - 18
:
Arrange the x's on left and numerical values on the right:
12x - 9x - 10x = - 18 - 6 + 12
:
-7x = -12
:
7x = 12; multiplied by -1
:
x = 12/7
:
An unattractive fraction, however, I checked it by substitution and confirmed
