x/3=4/(x+1)

Answer by Sandacious(9) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Make it a factoring question:
X = 4
__ ____
3 X+1
Multiply both sides by 3 You eliminate the denominator on the left
You get
X = 12
___
X+1
Now multiply both sides by X+1
You get:
X^2 + X = 12
Subtract 12 from both sides and you get
X^2 + X - 12 = 0
Now factor: Factors of -12 that when added together give you 1 (the coefficient of X in the middle (the value of X in the middle))
You'll get:
(X+4) (X-3)
Therefore: When you set them equal to Zero:
X=-4 or X = 3
