Question 717737: If f(x)=x/(x-3) and g(x)=2x-1, find (f-g)(x).
My choices are:
A. (-2x^2+8x-3)/(x-3)
B. (-2x^2+6x+1)/(x-3)
C. (-2x^2+5x-3)/(x-3)
D. (2x^2+6x+3)/(x-3)
If I had to guess I would say either A or C, but I have no idea. Thank you for your help!
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(f-g)(x) = f(x) - g(x)
(f-g)(x) = x/(x-3) - (2x - 1)
(f-g)(x) = x/(x-3) - (2x - 1)(x-3)/(x-3)
(f-g)(x) = (x- (2x - 1)(x-3))/(x-3)
(f-g)(x) = (x- (2x^2 - 6x - x + 3))/(x-3)
(f-g)(x) = (x- (2x^2 - 7x + 3))/(x-3)
(f-g)(x) = (x- 2x^2 + 7x - 3)/(x-3)
(f-g)(x) = (-2x^2 + 8x - 3)/(x-3)
So the answer is choice A
