Question 714134: My Algebra problem:
3.6 / .9 = 1 / ?
Now I know the solution is .25 because 3.6/.9 = 4 and 1/.25 = 4, but how do I show my solution:
4 = 1 / ?
I would normally try to isolate the "?" by moving the "1" from the right of the equal sign to the left of the equal sign, and in doing so change the sign or operation, (i.e., if it's multiplication; do division and vice versa), so I would do
4 x 1 = 4
but that doesn't work.
What are the algebra rules for crossing to the other side of the equal sign where multiplication and division are concerned?
Thanks
