Question 690968: How do you solve x-1 over 3 = x+1 over 7 for x

Answer by fcabanski(1391)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(x-1)/3 = (x+1)/7 cross multiply

7(x-1) =3(x+1) distribute

7x-7 =3x+3 subtract 3x from both sides and add 7 to both sides

4x=10 divide both sides by 4

x=10/4
