Question 675261: In the algrebraic Expression (2n+4)-(n-2) a book solution simplifies it to 2n+4-n+2 then to n+6 Why is the sign before the 2 changed from a negative to a positive?
Answer by ReadingBoosters(3246) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(2n+4) - (n-2)
Distribute the negative across the parentheses
2n + 4 -(n) - (-2)
...
which is the same as
2n + 4 - n + 2
...
Group like terms
2n - n + 4 + 2
n + 6
