Original equation:
Step 1: Add '9' to both sides so we don't have to deal with negatives

Step 2: Add '2c' to both sides so we don't have to deal with negatives

Step 3: Divide '7' on both sides to get 'c' by itself

The answer is

Answer by lenny460(1073)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5c-9 = 8-2c

5c - 9 = 8 - 2c
Add 9 from each side of the equation.
5c - 9 + 9 = 8 - 2c + 9
Combine like terms:
-9 + 9 = 0
8 + 9 = 17
Therefore:
5c = 17 - 2c
Add 2c from each side of the equation.
5c + 2c = 17 - 2c + 2c
Combine like terms:
5c + 2c = 7c
-2c + 2c = 0
7c = 17
Divide each side by 7
7c/7 = 17/7

The Answer:
c = 17/7
