"The sum of two numbers is 98" ---> x+y = 98

"If one number is six times the other" ----> y = 6x

-------------------------------------------------------

x+y = 98

x+6x = 98

7x = 98

x = 98/7

x = 14

y = 6x

y = 6*14

y = 84

So the two numbers are 14 and 84
