This is my first homework assignment after day 1 of class in beginning algebra, I feel stupid asking for help on what will seem simple to most. How do you work with fractions when used as such, X+1/4=-1/2

How do you work with fractions when used as such, X+1/4=-1/2

Step 1, be clear about what you want to do.
X+1/4=-1/2 solve for x (probably)
Subtract 1/4 from both sides
x = -1/2 - 1/4
x = -2/4 - 1/4
x = -3/4
