Question 630086: Please I need help on this problem.
I need to solve the following equation for y. Then I need to find the value of y For the given value of x.
The equation is xy - 6y = -15
The given value of x is 5
I have the text book with the original question and it says that after you solve for "y" your equation should be y = -15/(x - 6) but I don't understand how they reached that answer. When I tried solving it I got y^2 = -15/(x - 6). I would be so thankful if you answer this question.

According to the distributive property,
-->
Dividing both sides of the equation by gives you
-->
If I could not draw that long horizontal fraction line, I would write it as
y = -15/(x - 6)
The long fraction line means that both expressions (the one on top of that line, and the one under it) are calculated first, so I do not need to write parentheses around x-6.
For x=5
y = -15/(5 - 6) --> y=-15/(-1) -->
