To simplify this expression, we need to pay attention to the order of operations. I'm going to step
through each simplification individually. You can certainly combine some of these steps if you choose.
We have
-(3x+y)-{4-[5y-(y-9x)-5]-5x}
Distribute the negative (really a -1) across the first set of parentheses. -(3x+y) is -3x-y.
-3x-y-{4-[5y-(y-9x)-5]-5x}
Distribute the negative across the other set of parentheses. -(y-9) is -y+9.
-3x-y-{4-[5y-y+9x-5]-5x}
Combine like terms inside the square brackets. 5y-y is 4y.
-3x-y-{4-[4y+9x-5]-5x}
Distribute the negative across the square brackets. -[4y+9x-5] is -4y-9x+5.
