I tried cross multiplication: 3w = .5/.8; 3w = 6.25; w = 2.083. Is this correct, and is it okay to use a decimal or should I use a fraction in the answer? Thanks.

Cross multiplying gives you:







It's better to give fractional answers when given fractional equations and decimal answers when given decimal equations. That's a rule of thumb, some teachers are more precise than others.
